Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Morocco are exploring stronger cultural cooperation, including collaboration in the development of traditional music performances.

According to the statement of the Culture Ministry here on Tuesday, discussions on cultural cooperation were held during a meeting between Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini.

“Morocco’s Andalusi traditional music shares similarities with Indonesia's gambus and qasidah. Going forward, Indonesia and Morocco could establish cultural collaboration through these two music genres,” Zon said.

“In addition to organizing music performances, we can also invite gambus and Andalusi musicians to collaborate on the same stage,” Minister added.

He expressed hope that the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Morocco on cooperation in culture, the creative economy, and the utilization of traditions and local wisdom can be realized soon.

“The MoU can be accelerated as a follow-up to the cooperation between Indonesia and Morocco. In addition, we can also initiate programs that can advance the cultural ecosystem, such as artist residency programs, traditional music performances, and cultural conferences,” he said.

Zon expressed hope that the governments of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Morocco can explore more potential areas of cultural cooperation that would benefit the development of the creative industry and the preservation of local traditions in both countries.

Additionally, Ambassador Houssaini said that Indonesia and Morocco could collaborate to strengthen culture-based economic activities, cultural promotion, and institutional development, including museums.

According to the Ambassador, through a friendship built on mutual respect, both countries can strive to advance the culture of their respective countries.
