According to him, the measure could help maintain market balance while protecting farmers from excessively low prices.
“Addressing this issue is actually not difficult. In the future, food assistance will not only consist of rice and cooking oil. It could also include commodities such as chicken meat or eggs when prices are falling,” Sudaryono said on Friday.
Eggs are considered a suitable commodity for the program due to their importance as a source of protein and their susceptibility to price fluctuations.
He explained that the government is currently working to address various regulatory aspects to ensure that the commodity absorption scheme through food assistance can be implemented more effectively and accurately.
In addition to food assistance, Sudaryono noted that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program also plays a strategic role in supporting the stabilization of prices for various national food commodities.
According to him, the nutrition fulfillment program managed by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) can serve as a channel for absorbing farmers’ production when commodity prices decline.
He cited eggs as an example of a commodity currently experiencing low prices that could be absorbed through the MBG program, thereby meeting public nutritional needs while helping maintain producer prices.
The measure is expected to generate dual benefits by supporting nutritional improvement programs while also serving as a market stabilization instrument in the country’s egg-producing centers.
Meanwhile, the National Food Agency (Bapanas) stated that it will ensure the optimal absorption of egg production from farmers in Blitar District through the MBG program at favorable prices to maintain price stability at the farm level.
