Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received letters of credence from ambassadors of eight countries at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday before hosting them for a meeting in a chamber.

The diplomatic event began around 2 p.m. local time, with the president accepting Sri Lankan Ambassador Sumadhurika Sashikala Premawardhane, Philippine Ambassador Christopher Baltazar Montero, South Korean Ambassador Yoon Soongu, and Czech Ambassador Petr Kopriva.

Also presenting letters of credence were Palestinian Ambassador Abdalfatah Ahmed Khalil Alsattari, Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Michalopoulos, Lebanese Ambassador Salam Al Achkar, and Saint Lucian Ambassador Menissa Rambally.

Addressing the press at the Presidential Palace Complex after the ceremony, State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi noted that the credence deposition was followed by cordial exchanges between the president and the envoys.

He said the envoys conveyed greetings from their respective heads of state and expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s leadership and diplomatic efforts.

“Some of them also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo for his work and diplomacy, which they see as contributing to world peace,” Hadi said, who also serves as the president’s spokesperson.

During the meeting in the Veranda Chamber, the ambassadors also shared their views on bilateral relations with Indonesia.

“The president reiterated that Indonesia’s founding fathers established a free and active foreign policy, meaning the country is non-aligned,” Hadi added.

The ceremony concluded with the ambassadors bidding farewell to President Prabowo at the palace steps as the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, was played. The president was accompanied by State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Deputy Foreign Minister Muhammad Anis Matta, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir, Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
