“East Java has once again demonstrated the spirit of cooperation and a people-centered economy through cooperatives. This significant transaction value shows that village economic activity is moving and delivering direct benefits to residents,” she said in Surabaya on Friday.
Data from the program’s official portal showed that village cooperatives across the province registered a combined transaction value of Rp17.45 billion, accounting for more than half of the national total of Rp30.06 billion.
Khofifah described the achievement as proof that KDMPs in East Java are not merely idle legal entities but have been making tangible contributions to local economies and residents’ welfare.
She attributed the favorable trend to strong synergy among the central government, regional administrations, cooperative operators, and the wider public in fostering an ecosystem conducive to rural economic growth.
Moreover, East Java previously became the first province to secure legal status for 8,494 village cooperatives, a milestone that laid the foundation for accelerating implementation of the national priority program.
“Our target does not stop at increasing the number of cooperatives; we aim to make these business entities truly alive, productive, and capable of driving rural economies,” Khofifah affirmed.
The governor added that her administration envisions village cooperatives empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while expanding access to basic goods and services, creating jobs, and improving residents’ welfare.
She also stressed the importance of building an integrated business landscape that connects village cooperatives with MSMEs, village-owned enterprises, farmer groups, fisher communities, and creative economy professionals.
Through continued service improvements and business expansion, Khofifah expressed confidence that KDMPs in East Java will generate greater profits and deliver stronger contributions to livelihoods.
“Strong cooperatives will form the critical foundation for nurturing independent, prosperous, and competitive villages,” she concluded.
