The PPSE is among the 29 welfare support initiatives announced by President Prabowo Subianto during a plenary cabinet meeting in Jakarta on July 20.
The ministry's Director of Social Empowerment, Radik Raksaguna, said in a statement here on Thursday that the beneficiaries had been registered in the National Single Socioeconomic Data (DTSEN), which classifies residents based on their economic conditions to ensure targeted welfare assistance.
He explained that the ministry designed the PPSE not only to provide assistance to vulnerable families but also to help them achieve self-reliance by offering guidance in developing businesses suited to their needs and capabilities.
"The program encourages beneficiary families to achieve economic independence rather than rely on social assistance," Raksaguna said.
Nicki, a social counselor at the Directorate of Social Empowerment, said the program is designed to, a community field officer, acknowledged that empowering low-income communities is a challenging process that requires both transform social assistance into productive business ventures selected by beneficiary families, enabling them to achieve sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship.
Through the PPSE, the ministry seeks to help low-income residents earn sustainable incomes through trade, agriculture, livestock farming, and other economic activities.
Lidia, a community field officer, acknowledged that empowering low-income communities is a challenging process that requires both time and patience.
"Field officers serve as facilitators, mediators, and motivators, helping beneficiary families build resilience and confidence. We also connect them with qualified partners in their chosen business sectors," she said.
The PPSE has shown positive results in Karanganyar. One beneficiary, Siti Rokayah from Karanganyar Subdistrict, has successfully expanded her crispy chicken business, which now generates a monthly turnover of Rp5 million (around US$278).
Another beneficiary, Fitriana from Mojogedang Subdistrict, has used the program to grow her vegetable business, earning a monthly turnover of Rp20 million (around US$1,200).
