Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said various modes of transportation in the country will transition to electric vehicles in the future, in line with the government’s efforts to develop a green energy system based on renewable sources.

"We will build green energy, renewable energy. It is not just trains; eventually, almost all of our vehicles, our trucks, buses, cars, and motorcycles, will be electric-powered vehicles," Prabowo said in his remark in Semarang City, Central Java, on Thursday.

Prabowo said the development of electric transportation is part of the national energy strategy, which prioritises green and renewable energy.

During the inauguration of the first phase of the Semarang Tawang Station revitalization, he also emphasised that railways play a vital role in supporting the tourism sector.

He said the revitalization of hundreds of train stations by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) could serve as tourist attractions while contributing to the country's broader transformation.

"KAI’s efforts to revitalize hundreds of stations are very important. It should not be taken lightly. This could become a major attraction," the President said.

Preserving historic stations, he said, could attract domestic and international tourists interested in history and culture.

Furthermore, preserving the stations is also part of the effort to preserve history while making improvements in various fields.

"Preserve all train stations; this is also part of conserving history. But more importantly, it is part of our efforts as a nation to bring about transformation in all areas," he noted.

Prabowo also called for station facilities to be renovated with greater attention to cleanliness, orderliness, and environmental aesthetics.

He believes that improving transportation infrastructure and preserving historic buildings could boost tourism in various regions.

The revitalization of train stations is expected to support the national transformation efforts through the development of better and well-maintained public facilities.
