Head of the S Kalimantan Marine and Fisheries Office Rusdi Hartono, said the development of albumin is a step forward in transforming fishery resources into higher economic value products with broader applications.
“Albumin represents a value-added application of fishery products. Beyond meeting the public’s protein needs, its development can also create new economic opportunities within the fisheries sector,” Hartono said in Banjarbaru on Tuesday.
He said the office has designated the UPT BPMHP, or Technical Implementation Unit for Fishery Product Quality Testing, to lead the development.
He explained that the fisheries sector holds immense potential for further development through product innovation and diversification.
This involves not only producing fish as a consumption commodity, says Hartono, but also processing it into various value-added products that meet public needs.
Albumin is a protein naturally found in the body that plays a crucial role in maintaining fluid balance.
In terms of its utility, albumin is known to support the immune system, aid in healing and tissue regeneration, and be easily absorbed by the body.
Hartono said fishery-based product development must prioritize quality and safety to ensure the final products deliver optimal benefits to the community.
"We are promoting not only the production of fishery resources, but also their processing into high-quality, safe, and value-added products. This is part of the downstreaming efforts we continue to develop," he said.
According to Hartonom, the development of albumin aligns with South Kalimantan Governor H Muhidin's directive to strengthen the marine and fisheries sector and generate a broader impact on the community.
Through innovation and product diversification, the office expects the utilization of fishery resources to create new value chains and open up business opportunities for stakeholders in the fisheries sector.
"We hope innovations like this will not stop at product development, but will ultimately generate an economic impact and strengthen the fisheries sector in South Kalimantan," he stated.
Meanwhile, the development of albumin is being specifically carried out through the BPMHP to foster the diversification and innovation of fishery products in South Kalimantan.
