"Today, the burned land area in Jambi continues to decrease or has been extinguished, in line with the work of the Forest and Land Fire Handling Task Force, which recorded a burned area of 13 hectares as of Tuesday (Sept. 1)," Suharyanto said here on Wednesday.
BNPB stated it cannot yet confirm whether the eight hectares currently being extinguished would expand, as patrols were scheduled for today to monitor new fire spots.
Based on Forestry Ministry fire spot data, each hotspot must then be verified in the field through patrols to determine whether it is an actual fire or another heat source.

A coordination meeting between the Jambi task force, the Forestry Ministry, and BNPB also reported aerial patrols had been carried out, with monitoring results finding one point suspected to be a new but still small fire.
"This is the technique used to monitor and determine how much land burns daily, so the data can be tracked in real time every day," he added.
Suharyanto explained satellite hotspot data can capture all heat sources, including stoves, waste burning, and heat from factories. To confirm whether it is an actual forest or land fire, physical verification through aerial or ground patrols is required.
BNPB also urged the Jambi task force to keep up cooperation in tackling the fires, as the dry season peaks this September, stressing continued vigilance and prevention to keep fires from growing and spreading.
"Ground and air teams must work together to extinguish the wildfires occurring in their areas," Suharyanto said.
