"In my view, the key word is responsibility. It is not just about pushing innovation, as we believe every innovation must be developed responsibly," Hafid said in a statement received and confirmed here on Wednesday.
Hafid conveyed this message as a keynote speaker at a forum titled "Human Connection in a Digital World" on Tuesday.
The minister said the skills of experts and graduates of global education in AI, data science, and cybersecurity are highly relevant to Indonesia's needs amid the acceleration of digital transformation.
She said they hold a strategic position to bridge academic knowledge, professional experience, and national development needs.
"This opens opportunities to exchange ideas and develop technology that serves and protects humans, rather than becoming a disruption to humanity," she said.
Besides the digital technology sector, Hafid also identified opportunities for overseas university graduates to contribute in the sustainable energy, education, and health sectors.
In the education sector, mentoring programs and strengthening ties between universities and industry are considered crucial for producing future talent aligned with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita missions.
At the forum, which brought together alumni from Australian universities, Hafid also highlighted the continuously growing partnership between Indonesia and Australia.
She said the strong bilateral relationship could serve as a foundation for expanding cooperation in technology development and human resource capacity between the two countries.
Hafid noted that international networks formed through education play a significant role in ensuring that contributions created for the wider community have a more tangible impact.
She also expressed hope that within networks of overseas university alumni, graduates would not only gather and reminisce about their years of study, but also create space for exchanging ideas, cross-sector collaboration, and even delivering real solutions to Indonesia's challenges.
"In the end, we hope that alumni chapters are not just a forum for us to meet, but also a space to discuss and contribute ideas. I believe we all want to make a bigger contribution," Hafid said.
