Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here Monday opened the first Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) trading session of the new year with words of praise for the bourse`s peformance in the past year.

Share trading opened 16.82 points or 0.45 percent higher at 3,720.33 points, and the 45 superior shares cluster (LQ45) also opened 5.682 points or 0.86 percent hogher at 667.06 points.

In his remarks on the occasion, the President asked all the market players to maintain Indonesia`s economic stability.

"I am grateful for the commitment to hard work and the dedication of all market players. Share trading has been very impressive and as a result, BEI is now the stock exchange with the highest growth in the Asia Pacific region," he said.

The Indonesian Stock Exchange was closed at 3,703.51 levels in last year`s trade which marked the highest in Asia Pacific region with best performance.

IDX president director Ito Warsito said that the 2010 Composite Stock Price Index was the best performed share index in the Asia Pacific region.

"The recent Composite Stock Price Index growth is a form of trust from investors to Indonesian developing economy that is stabilizing," he said.

President Yudhoyono was accompanied by a number of the "Indonesia Bersatu II" Cabinet ministers at BEI building namely, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Marine and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad, Economic Coordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and the Industry Minister MS Hidayat.
