Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Bitung, North Sulawesi, Saturday at 11.10 am Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).

The earthquake`s epicenter located at 0.05 degrees northern latitude and 125.00 degrees eastern longitude (BT) at a depth of 30 km below sea level, and around 156 km southwest of Bitung, according to information from the national meteorological, climatology and geophysics office.

The temblor, which was also 221 km southeast of Gorontalo, did not have potential to trigger a tsunami.
