Governor Nur Alam said here on Tuesday that the local government`s support was given to the two districts in their effort to build large-scale seaweed processing plants.
"Two large-scale seaweed processing plants will in the near future be established respectively in the districts of Muna and Wakatobi, and therefore the local government should give its full support," Governor Nur Alam said.
The governor admitted that he has asked all regional working units (SKPD) in the province to direct the people`s economic empowerment funds to the two districts where the seaweed processing plants would be established.
"The cooperatives and small and medium businesses (UKM) have the people economic empowerment funds of around Rp19 billion, and therefore I hope the funds will be directed to assist the development of seaweed cultivation in Wakatobi and Muna districts," Nur Alam said.
According to the governor, the establishment of the two seaweed processing plants in the two districts would open ample employment opportunities for the people of Muna and Wakatobi in particular and the people of Southeast Sulawesi in general.
Nur Alam said that the people of the two districts could either work for the two processing industries or cultivate seaweed for the plants.(*)
