Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA News) - Some 44 Tengger people`s houses in Argosari, Senduro sub-district, Lumajang, were damaged by a whirlwind that hit the district, Argosari`s village head, said here Thursday.

"We are still collecting data on the damage caused by the whirlwind and the amount may be higher than estimated," said Martiam, the Arosari village head, here Thursday.
The whirlwind hit Argosari and Pusung Dhuwur villages, which were located between Mt. Semeru and Mt. Bromo, on Wednesday (Jan 12).

Martiam said the number of damaged houses recorded by local governemnt officers wase 44 , including two seriously damaged ones, and 42 other houses damaged slightly.

"People whose houses are seriously damaged have to flee to their safe neighbors and relatives for the sake of their safety," he said.

He urged the local people to be wary of more whirlwinds but asked them not to panic.
Several trees along the road to Ranupani, Senduro sub-district were reported to have fallen across the road blocking access heading to the area.

"Thank God, there was no death toll in the whirlwind," Martiam added.

The data showed 12 of 21 sub-districts in Lumajang were prone to disasters, like floods, mudslides and whirlwinds.

The 12 sub-districts were Tempusari, Pronojiwo, Candipuro, Pasirian, Pasrujambe, Djatiroto, Rowokangkung, Yosowilangun, Senduro, Gucialit, Kedungjajang and Tekung.
