"Stay alert of extreme weather highest rainfall in January 2011, as intensity will be very high," head of the Makassar BMKG Sujarwo said here Thursday.
He said the weather at the end of 2011 was difficult to predict, but the BMKG found out that the rainy season will reach a top in January 2011, and decline in February-March 2011.
The peak rainy season will occur in Makassar and surroundings, including the south and west of South Sulawesi like Takalar, Gowa, Maros, Pangkep, Barru, Parepare and Pinrang regencies.
"The normal intensity of the rain in a month is 600 cubic millimeters, but it may be higher than that," he said.
The high rate intensity was the effects of La Nina.
According to Makassar BMKG, the wind speed reached an average of 16 kilometers per hour, and sea waves may reach as high as 3 to five meters. (*)
