Indonesian ambassador to Tunisia Muhammad Ibnu Said said all Indonesians in Tunisia were safe. "All Indonesian citizens here are safe," he said when contacted by ANTARA early on Saturday.
"All Indonesian citizens particularly students have all been evacuated to the embassy and the ambassador house since Wednesday," he said.
He said the students had been evacuated earlier because they lived in clash areas.
There is a total of 109 Indonesians in Tunisia right now living in various cities besides Tunis, such as Hamamit, Sus and Tantawin in the south, he said.
Some Indonesian citizens have also been accomodated at safe places near the Indonesian embassy.
The evacuation was carried out following political and security crisis in Tunisia following huge demonstrations that had left more than 20 people dead in the past week.
The demonstrators mostly students and opposition parties are demanding the dissolution of the government.
Tunisia`s President Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali had been pressured to resign and was reported to have fled out of the country on Friday.(*)
