Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih said the disease she was suffering from would not hamper her activity as a cabinet member.

"I remain and will continue to have my health checked up at the hospital but it will not hamper my activity as a minister," Endang said at a press conference at her office here on Monday.

The health minister also said there was no leeway given to her in carrying out her tasks as a minister, although she was suffering from lung cancer.

When undergoing a regular check-up in October 2010, she was diagnosed to have lung cancer.

"When I had my health checked up on October 22 last year, I was all right but on further examination the doctor was worried about the what an X-ray test showed," the minister said.

It was in the further examination that the doctor discovered a lung cancer in her X-ray result.

"That was an alarming news for me and my family because I sensed no symptom at all in the begging," Endang said.

She added that after being informed by the doctor about her real condition, she reported it immediately to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
