Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Marzuki Alie led an Indonesian delegation to a conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The eight-member delegation included Chairman of the DPR`s Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Board (BKSAP) Hidayat Nurwahid and BKSAP Vice Chairman Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, a press statement of the DPR RI said here Tuesday.

The PUIC Executive Committee members in their last meeting in Abu Dhabi in October 2010 had issued an Abu Dhabi Declaration.

In the Declaration, they among other things requested the United Nations to help reach a just and lasting settlement to the Arab - Israeli conflict and the Palestinian Cause.

They also rejected all political and media allegations on linking Islam with terrorism.
During their stay in Abu Dhabi, the Indonesian legislators also planned to hold a meeting with Indonesian community in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday (Jan 19).

They hoped to get first hand information of problems faced by Indonesian migrant workers working in the Arab country.

Meanwhile, Palembang will host a meeting of The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) from January 24 to 31, 2012.

Around 500 participants from 51 Muslim majority countries would participate in the meeting, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Marzuki Alie said recently in Palembang, South Sumatra, in a meeting to discuss preparations for the PUIC gathering next year.

Marzuki Alie said the PUIC meeting would be a good opportunity to promote tourism and business potentials of South Sumatra.

On the sidelines of their meeting, the PUIC delegates will be entertained to field visits to Palembang Grand Mosque, Admiral Ceng Ho Mosque, and Tangga Buntung traditional woven clothe industry.
