Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The South Jakarta District Court sentenced Haposan Hutagalung, the former lawyer of controversial former taxman Gayus Tambunan, to seven years in jail on Wednesday after being convicted of hiding information of assets collected from corruption.<br><br> "And fined him Rp300 million or three months in jail for failing to pay the fine," chief judge Tahsin said reading the verdict.<br><br> The sentence was lower that the prosecutor`s demand of 15 years and a fine of Rp500 million.<br><br> The judges said the defendant was proven guilty and convincingly conducting a crime by helping provide false information about assets collected from corruption.<br><br> "The defendant has also along with other accomplices conducted corruption," Tahsin said.<br><br> Haposan`s lawyer, Jhon Panggabean, said he would appeal the verdict and would the prosecutors.<br><br> Gayus Tambunan was also sentenced to seven years in jail for corruption on Wednesday.(*)
