A total of 120 Russian students, including about 50 from the mainly Muslim republic of Bashkortostan, were sent to Egypt on a training course, a spokesman for the Barshkir president, said.
"At the moment the students are stuck on the fourth floor of the building, 15 kilometers away from the nearest airport. They only have food enough to last for the day. The students are asking for a plane to be sent to take them back to Russia," spokesman Artyom Valiyev said.
At least 150 people have been killed and about 4,000 injured in the riots as anti-government protests continue for a seventh day in Egypt. Embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, 82, has rejected calls from protesters to resign.
The president dismissed the previous cabinet on Saturday. He then appointed former air force commander Ahmed Shafiq as the new premier. Meanwhile, a number of opposition groups have asked opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei to form a national unity government.(*)
