Cairo (ANTARA News/AFP) - Egypt`s parliament has been suspended until the contested results of elections held in late 2010 are revised, state news agency MENA said Wednesday.

The two houses of parliament "have decided to suspend their sessions indefinitely, until decisions are reached" about the results of the elections held in November and December last year, MENA said.

The elections were marred by violence as well as accusations of widespread fraud and vote-rigging.

MENA said that the speaker of the parliament, Fathi Surur, "has ordered the secretary general of the parliament, Sami Mahran, to contact the electoral high commission to get the names of MPs who face court decisions" annuling their win.

Opposition groups that have staged nine days of protests against President Hosni Mubarak have demanded the cancellation of the election, which saw Mubarak`s ruling National Democratic Party win 80 percent of seats in the parliament, according to official results.

Surur had pledged on Sunday that the results of the elections would be "corrected" in upcoming court decisions. (M014/K004)
