However, the January 2011 exports were 24.65 percent higher than those of the same period last year.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s exports in January fell 14.11 percent to US$14.45 billion from a month earlier, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said.
"It comes as no surprise if our exports in January were lower than in December. And that is the cycle according to the general pattern," BPS Chief Rusman Heriawan said here on Tuesday.
However, the January 2011 exports were 24.65 percent higher than those of the same period last year, he said.
Data from the BPS show the January 2011 exports consisted of non-oil/non-gas commodities worth US$11.94 billion and oil and gas commodities worth US$2.52 billion.
Compared to the previous month, the non-oil/non-gas exports in January fell 12.04 percent but were 29.03 percent higher than those of January last year.
Rusman said the US was the biggest market for Indonesia`s exports in January with US$1.26 billion, followed by Japan US$1.21 billion and China US$1.15 billion.
"In total, our exports to the three countries accounted for 30.31 percent of the overall exports in January," he said.
The agency also noted that Indonesia`s exports to European Union and ASEAN member states represented 14.72 percent and 23,79 percent respectively of the January 2011 exports.(*)
