The chief of AJI`s Papua chapter, Viktor Mambor, said to newsmen here on Thursday the incident was obviously connected with Ambarita`s activities as a journalist and therefore could not be categorized as an ordinary crime.
He hoped this case would really be processed well adding he had already reported it to the police.
"Earlier I have verbally reported it to the regional and resort police chiefs so that they could process it quickly," he said.
He said to find evidence and collect facts about the case he would form a special team and it has been discussed with journalists and media chiefs in Jayapura.
"AJI certainly will set up a special team to deal with the case involving media colleagues in Jayapura. The victim`s family meanwhile has also asked journalist to establish an independent team to find facts behind the incident," he said.
Two men had stabbed Ambarita in the Entrop bridge area or in front of the South Jayapura district office at around 2am on Thursday.
Due to the attack he suffered serious stab wounds in his stomach. After undergoing surgery he is now being treated intensively at Marthen Indey hospital.
Doctors said he suffered four stab wounds affecting intestines and a lung bone but the process of surgery had gone well.
To anticipate any eventuality tens of journalists are guarding him at the hospital area. (*)
