Raslanuf (ANTARA News/AFP) - Hundreds of jubilant Libyan rebels cheered and fired into the air, celebrating control of the oil town of Raslanuf on Friday after forcing out loyalists of Moamer Kadhafi in fierce fighting.

Rebels were positioned outside the Harouge Oil Operations compound, at the military barracks, police station and at the gates to a nearby residential area, said an AFP reporter.

"Moamer, you donkey," shouted hundreds of rebels crowded outside the gates to the residential compound, mocking the Libyan leader.

"We`ve taken their barracks. The residential area is being combed now for remnants (of Kadhafi`s forces)," said rebel fighter Suleh Sultan.

Outside the barracks, dozens of cars were parked on the road as rebels, who had advanced on the town from the east Friday, open fire in celebration.

"They fled like rabbits. When we initially advanced, they hit us with Grad missiles and heavy weapons. But we pressed on because we know they`re rats," said fighter Abdul Salam. (S008/K004)
