Bantaeng, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The people of Bonto Bulaeng and Bonto Karaeng villages, Sinoa sub-district, South Sulawesi, are now enjoying electricity after a micro hydro power plant (PLTMH) began to operate on Friday.

The 40 kWh power plant was inaugurated by Bantaeng Regent on behalf of regional secretary HM Yasin in the presence of local community leaders of Bantaeng regency.

The PLTMH which illuminates 250 houses had cost Rp 77 million from the local population in addition to Rp 270.8 million of the power plant`s own 2010 budget.

Head of the community empowerment agency and the administration of the village Meyriyani said right now the power plant has covered 125 families in Bonto Bulaeng and Bonto Karaeng villages.

In the meantime Bantaeng regent in his written address warmly praised and welcomed the power plant, which would contribute to accelerating the development of the villages.

One of the most important things of the maintenance of the power plant is preserving the local forests and trees as the main sources of water of the hydro power plant. (*)
