The agreement was reached at a meeting between Indonesian Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Soeparno and his Singaporean counterpart Rear Admiral Chew Men Leong at the Indonesian Navy Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Friday.
Military cooperation, particularly that between the two navies had so far run well, spokesman of the Indonesian Navy Headquarters Commodore Tri Prasodjo said.
The two navies had so far been engaged in various spheres of cooperation, including education, exchange of ranking officers, and joint exercise, he said.
"We have for a long time been cooperating (with Singapore) in conducting sea patrol under a bilateral scheme and together with Malaysia and Thailand in safeguarding the Malacca Strait under a multilateral scheme," he said.
To increase sea border security, the two countries also had been cooperating in setting up a spy radar called "Surveillance Picture" (Surpic) 2 to monitor real-time situation in the Singaporean Strait, he said. (*)
