Samarinda, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Under a commitment of the government under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to lower emissions in Indonesia by 26 pct, or 41 pct with international help by 2020, now the Indonesian government is preparing at least Rp841.2 trillion.

"This has something to do with one of the important world issues which many feared to have a negative impact on the world`s ecosystem due to the accumulation of greenhouse gasses caused by the burning of fossil energy," expert staff of the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change of the Environment Ministry Umiyatun Hayati Triastuti said here Tuesday.

She made the statement when addressing a workshop under a cooperation between the institutional ministry communications forum and the East Kalimantan provincial administration under the theme " Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in supporting Carbon Low Development".

"Voluntarily Indonesia is committed to lowering GRK emissions by 26 pct by 2020 or 41 pct with international assistance," he added.

Based on a commitment of the Indonesian President made at a meeting of G-20 di Pittsburg on lowering GRK emissions by 2020, Indonesia lowered it by 26 pct while 41 pct is Indonesia`s effort and international assistance.

To realize the commitment a National Action Plan (RAN) on GRK will be evaluated according to national needs and latest glocal developments, meeting international requirements and international recognition (UNFCCC).

RAN is the lowering of GRK emissions integrated with the Sustainable National Development Strategy to be adjusted to policy developments.

The main activity of lowering GRK emissions if the lowering of deforestation (control of fires and illegal logging), increasing the absorption of carbon, management of peat land, energy mix and waste disposal.(*)
