"If 10n percent of the total population of West Java participate in this action by turning off all electrical devices for an hour, they can save about 661.54 MW of electricity," Setiawan Wangsatmadja, the head of West Java`s Environment Management Board, said here Thursday.
He also said Earth Hour was a global campaign that invites all people in the world, from individuals to governmental bodies, to support actions to reduce carbon gas emissions that harm the environment.
For this year`s campaign, he urged all citizens in West Java to turn off unused lamps and electrical gadgets for an hour from 08.30 to 09.30 pm.
"The period covers the peak hours of the day when electricity usage usually reaches its highest point," he said.
He underlined the need for West Java province to fully support the campaign of Earth Hour 2011 as a part of a wise energy campaign in West Java.
"Symbolically, this campaign will be launched at the Gedung Sate, the Bandung town hall, Bandung Technology Institute campus and Padjajaran University campus, places that have become the icons of West Java province," he said.
