Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held former minister of home affairs Hari Sabarno on Friday for allegedly being involved in a corruption case.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi admitted KPK had held Hari Sabarno for developing investigation.

The former minister who is also a retired general was sent to the Cipinang Penitentiary by the anti-corruption agency after being named a suspect in the case of fire engine procurement since September 2010.

Hari has been mentioned as participating in issuing the radiogram for the procurement of fire engines for several regions to make PT Istana Sarana Raya and PT Satal Nusantara belonging to Hengky Samuel Daud the sole suppliers.

Due to the policy several regional chiefs have been sent to jail including former governor of West Java Dani Setiawan, former mayor of Medan, Abdillah, former deputy mayor of Medan, Ramli, and former director general of regional autonomy of the ministry of home affairs, Oentarto Sindung Mawardi.

In response to his arrest, Hari said he would follow all the process and regulations.

During interrogation so far Hari has always stated that he was not involved in the case. He said he never knew about the issuance of the radiogram that had been used as the basis for the implementation of the project.

KPK meanwhile believed prices had been marked up to make the country suffer a loss in the project. (*)
