Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters tightened security on Friday following a suicide bomb attack at a police station`s mosque in Cirebon, West Java, earlier in the day.

"It is normal that security has been tightened because we do not want a similar incident to happen at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police," Jakarta Metropolitan Police head of public relations Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar said.

Baharudin said police personnel had checked every location in the compound to assure no suspicious things were there.

Head of the Jakarta police`s internal affairs Adjunct Senior Commissioner Niti Harto Negoro meanwhile said he had deployed more personnel to increase security at the headquarters.

One man was killed and 28 people were wounded when a bomb exploded inside Al-Dzikr mosque in the compound of the Cirebon police headquarters during Friday prayers.

The fatality was the man who had detonated the bomb while many of the wounded were police officers including the chief of the resoort police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Herukoco.

The wounded were injured by nails that flew into their bodies from the bomb that exploded.

A muslim figure meanwhile said that the perpetrators of the bombing were old actors.

Hazim Muzadi, former chief of the country`s largest Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), said "the perpetrators are old actors. They now have courage to act, to attack publicly."

He said "this proves that terrorism is not identical with Islam because they also attack mosques and security apparatus."

In view of that he called on all parties not to put Islam into a corner with various accusations.

"I hope negative views addressed to Islam are stopped," he said.
