Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Police in Bali have stepped up security in the island following the suicide bombing in the police station compound in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday.

"Certainly this is not exclusively our task. We call on all community components to jointly assure security in Bali. After the bombing in Cirebon we have indeed given extra attention to security in the island," Bali police spokesman Senior Commissioner Gde Sugianyar said to ANTARA News here on Saturday.

He said around 66 percent of personnel had been ordered to increase their alertness towards potential security problems.

A suicide bomber detonated a bomb during Friday prayers at a mosque in the compound of the Cirebon city resort police headquarters on Friday killing himself and wounding several others including the chief of the resort police command.

Most of the victims suffered wounds from nails, bolts and other sharp metal pieces that came out of the blast.

The police temporarily concluded the suicide bomber was a local resident identified as Mohammad Syarif aged around 28 years.
