"Right now seven people are being interrogated at the Kebumen district police station after our personnel found an indication of criminal act in the field," chief of the Central Java provincial police Insp. Gen. Edward Aritonang said here early Sunday.
He made the statement following a meeting with Kebumen district head Buyar Winarso, chief of the Central Java regional military command Maj. Gen. Langgeng Sulistyo and Central Java vice governor Rustriningsih.
The clash followed Setrojenar residents` refusal of the Army`s plan to use the village as training ground.
Aritonang said the indication of criminal act included the finding of materials used to blockade the road from and to the Army`s research and development station.
"These were all caused by intentional act or disaster. If they were done intentionally, the perpetrators must be disclosed. We are working hard to disclose the case," he said.
"Investigation is still underway to see if there is criminal act. Even though people are not directly involved they will be considered to have committed a crime if they assist other people in committing the crime," he said.
He said police were also investigating whether or not there was an indication of certain quarters inciting the mass in the incident.
Asked whether Army personnel involved in the clash would also be investigated, he said it was for the military police to do so.
Chief of the Central Java regional military command Maj. Gen. Langgeng Sulistyo said a team of military police personnel had been sent to the field to investigate all personnel involved. "All will be investigated, including the commander and me," he said.(*)
