"People`s rising awareness to protect the environment must be followed with awareness from industrial players and the government."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The emerging of green lifestyles among people recently is good but not enough yet, Executive Director of Indonesian Forum for the Environment Berry Nahdian said.

"The lifestyle must be supported with national awareness to protect the environment and proper regulation issued by the government," Berry said here on Monday.

He said green lifestyle in Indonesia was only conducted by several groups of people. He also criticized the government saying that it had not yet issued an optimal pro-environment regulations.

He took example of the trend of using bicycle to work in Indonesia. "Some really implement it because of awareness to reduce pollution, but others just conduct it in the name of trend," he said.

Apart from people`s awareness to save the environment, Berry said the government must also issue policies or facilities to support green lifestyle. Citing an example, he said more people in Jakarta city would be willing to use bike to work if only the local government set up special lane for cycling.

Berry also criticized the growing number of industries and exploitation of natural resources n Indonesia without proper care to preserve the environment.

"People`s rising awareness to protect the environment must be followed with awareness from industrial players and the government," he said.

More Indonesian has conducted green lifestyle during the past eight years with activities such as using bike to work, planting mangrove trees or separate organic and non-organic wastes.
