"WMC is a forum for maize exporting and importing countries and this forum will therefore have significant impact on the world economy."
Gorontalo (ANTARA News) - The World Maize Conference (WMC) which is initially planned to be held here in 2011 has been postponed until 2012, Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail said.

"WMC is a forum for maize exporting and importing countries and this forum will therefore have significant impact on the world economy. So, this conference will not be postponed again because it is urgent for both importing and exporting nations," the governor said here on Tuesday.

However, he said, the postponement of the event gave the Gorontalo government a chance to make a mature preparation.

So far, the regional government has made preparations in the form of supporting infrastructure development such as the construction of a by-pass road.

The local government is also preparing an exemplary maize cultivation land and interior designs at the Gorontalo Maize Information Center (BPIJ).
