Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono hoped Indonesian workers would prioritize dialogs rather than confrontation in settling disputes with their employers.

"I warmly welcome any spirit of labor unions to give priority to dialog over confrontation in settling problems," he said when opening the 6th congress of the Confederation of the Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union (KSBSI) here on Sunday.

The vice president said employers and other stakeholders including the government must appreciate the spirit.

Also present at the meeting were Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar and Jakarta Vice Governor Prijanto.

Boediono said the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity) and democracy to which the workers adhered was the fruit of their own struggle and the spirit had created a great chance to solve problems through dialogs or discussions to reach agreement.

But these all would eventually leave to the goodwill of all components whether they were ready to resolve their common problems by always paying attention to common interests, namely national interests, he said.

"The equality between employees and employers in dialogs is very important and the government must serve as a just facilitator in the dialogs," he said.

The government warmly welcomed and supported any effort to modernize labor unions, he said adding to answer the challenge of changing era KSBSI played a great role.

He said not only workers but all sides would benefit from the modernized labor unions. (*)
