Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia conducted a repeat fit -and-proper test on Citibank`s executives and management on Monday following the private bank`s recent credit card and Citigold priority service problems.

"The fit-and-proper test has been going on as of today. BI has moved fast because based on regulations it has to be done maximally within 40 days," BI Deputy Governor Halim Alamsyah said.

During the test, the executives were summoned one by one and questioned to see their role and mistakes in handling Citigold premium service and credit card management.

BI Deputy Governor Budi Rochadi had previously said that the number of Citibank officials to be tested reached around 20 while during the process they had to cease working.

BI had also asked Citibank to fire the officials involved directly in the Citigold and credit card cases.

Based on a BI Regulation, bank managements must pass fit and proper tests to ensure that the bank is managed according to good corporate governance principles.(*)
