Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The ongoing Aceh Fair from May 8-15, 2011 is expected to result in at least Rp1 billion worth of transactions involving small and medium businesses, Cipta, a spokesman of the event`s organizing committee, said here on Friday.

Cipta said all small and medium business stands at the one-week event were targeted to make Rp150 million worth of transactions per day.

According to him, the home industry products being promoted in the fair were quite competitive in quality and prices compared with the same goods outside Aceh.

Cipta who is the head of Aceh`s small and medium business, cooperative, trade and industry office, added that the most favorite product in the Aceh Fair was leather shoes made in Aceh Singkil.

"The leather shoes from Aceh Singkil are made of good material and have attractive designs," Cipta said.

Meanwhile, Syaiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) economic observer Rustam Effendi said here over the weekend that the Aceh Fair was intended to attract as many foreign and domestic investors as possible to invest in the Province.

"The Aceh Fair is a good strategy by the local government to introduce potential local products to investors," Rustam Effendi said.

Rustam said that to attract more investors, the Aceh government should increase promotion events both at home and overseas if needed.

"Without intensive promotion, investors will not know in what sector they would invest in Aceh," Rustam said, adding that the investors were reluctant to invest in Aceh because they did not know for sure the investment potentials there.

He pointed out that Aceh was rich in natural resources, agriculture, plantations, marine and fishery, farm and mining for investment.

"The Aceh Fair will show investors that the province is now conducive for investment," Rustam said, hoping that the event would be increased to attract as many investors as possible in the future.
