"The deported Indonesian migrant workers who arrived by boat in Nunukan at 8 pm Friday were held earlier at a temporary detention center in Tawau," Nunukan district administration spokesman Hasan Basri said on Saturday.
He said the 70 Indonesian migrant workers were made up of 48 men and 22 women, mostly from South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara while the rests were from Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, East Kalimantan and East Java.
"They were deported because of various violations violations. A total of 31 of them did not have legal document, 20 were without passport, and even 21 others have undergone canning in Malaysia," Hassan Basri said.
According to him, they were being investigated by problematic migrant workers task force officials from Nunukan immigration office, police, the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant worker (BP3TKI) chapter office in Nunukan, and manpower and transmigration office.
"The deported migrant workers will soon be sent to their respective hometowns but for those who want to return to Malaysia to work again are requested to have their legal document made," Hasan Basri said.
He added that they were temporarily accommodated at Indonesian labor service company (PJTIKI) office and manpower and transmigration office in Nunukan.
Hassan said 58 or them would return to Malaysia.
