"I continue to follow with great apprehension the tragic armed conflict in Libya that has caused a large number of victims and suffering, especially in the civilian population," the pope said after his weekly Angelus prayer in St Peter`s Square.
"I renew a pressing appeal that the voice of negotiations and dialogue be stronger than that of violence, with the help of international organisations that are looking for a solution to the crisis," the pontiff added.
"My thoughts also go to Syria, where it is urgent to restore cohabitation marked by harmony and unity," he said.
"I ask God that there be no further bloodshed in this country of great religions and civilisations," the pope said, adding: "I ask the authorities and citizens to spare no effort in the search for the common good, recognising legitimate aspirations for a future of peace and stability." (*)
