Yingluck, the youngest sister of ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinnawatra, was elected unanimously by her party as the next prime minister candidate on Monday. The general election is set on July 3.
Thai Election Commission on Thursday held an event for political party leaders to draw ballots for position number for the general election when registration of party list candidates for the general election began at the Thai-Japan Youth stadium on Thursday morning.
The ruling Democrat Party of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva drew position No.10 on the ballot paper, while Thaksin-affiliated Pheu Thai party drew the No.1 position, bringing a loud cheer from its supporters gathering at the stadium.
Yingluck said she would start her political campaigns by visiting local people after the official registration with the EC this morning. She announced that she will visit the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai first this weekend.
