"I believe that a compromise is suitable for Indonesia. Market efficiency rule is important, but the government`s role and intervention are needed," he said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the government will launch a master plan for acceleration of economic development to boost investment and invite foreign participation while sticking to a compromise to ensure economic equality for the people`s welfare.

"I believe that a compromise is suitable for Indonesia. Market efficiency rule is important, but the government`s role and intervention are needed," he said at the opening of a general lecture of Korean Economic professor Ha-Joon Chang at the State Palace here Thursday.

The President said that Indonesia has started to pave the way toward a world economic power in the next 15 to 20 years by initiating a work program of targets.

"I as Indonesian President is building a belief that we can accomplish our ideals for the "emerging" economies in line with new ideas and plans, while some are skeptical and pessimistic," he said.

President Yudhoyono believes that the targets can be achieved because of three things, namely improper management of Indonesian skills and resources, the nation`s ability to survive the financial crisis of 2008-2009, and the desire and steps to improve weaknesses such as policy implementations, low competitiveness and infrastructure problems.

The President also asserted that although Indonesia has abundant natural resources, its economic development will not be based on it, except to build manufacturing and service industries.

The President also wished that Professor Chang`s thoughts can become inputs for the government for national development.

"We will know later which is suitable for Indonesia and which is unique to Korea. I believe that besides strategies and economic policies, we need more spirit, discipline and hard work," the president said.(*)
