Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia now has a Youth Study Center in the Gadjah Mada University campus in Yogyakarta as the only such center in Indonesia.

Youth and Sports Minister Andi A. Mallarangeng had inaugurated the center last Saturday.

He said Indonesia has no comprehensive literature on youth affairs. The existing ones were mainly about activism and student movements, the role of youths in various changes, and issues on the demography of youths.

"We still have no expert in youth affairs, nor basic studies on the youth, and therefore no maps on the problems and potentials of the youth," the minister said.

The absence of comprehensive literature often caused surprise to people when facing the fact that young people had often become the target of terrorists or religious radicals, he added.

In this context, he said, one very important idea that needs to be realized is an early warning system for the problems facing the youth, and in preventing radicalism among the youth. (H-NG/S012)
