Depok, W Java (ANTARA News) - Communications and Informatics Minister Tifatul Sembiring said he had been criticized by many parties, including pornographic artists, for his step to block pornographic websites in Indonesia.

"Many felt they were disadvantaged by the closing of the access to pornographic websites while they have earned a lot," the minister said when he officiated a school "Love Children" at Tapos, here on Tuesday.

The minister who is former president of the Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS) said that those who protested considered the blocking of the sites as oppressing freedom, while in fact the access was closed based on the message of the law.

He said that the income earned from the internet`s pornographic industry reached US$100 billions.

"People are banned from uploading pornographic contents into the internet, now matter who they are," the minister added.

He said that that the move to block porn websites continued to go on and at present about 90 percent of the sites had been blocked.

However, he admitted that there were still websites which escaped the move and still could be accessed by internet users.

Tifatul Sembiring said that Indonesia was the third biggest country where the internet was accessed by internet users while it was the second biggest in term of porn site visitors.(*)
