The MoU was signed jointly by Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Inskandar, and National Education Minister Muhammad Nuh before Vice President Boediono at the latter`s office.
Fadel said the establishment of KPIP was also supported by Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi and Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa.
According to him, the KPIP would function to give information and services of maritime and fishery related job opportunities from both national and international companies.
Fadel said the KPIP was expected to bridge business players in maritime and fishery sectors with job seekers.
He added that a number of countries needed around 10,000 workers from Indonesia per year for their marine and fisheries sector.
Fadel said the information on the need for Indonesian workers in the foreign countries was obtained from various companies participating in the International Marine and Fisheries Job Fair (I`JO F.M 2011) at the SMESCO UKM building from May 23-25, 2011.
Meanwhile, Muhaimin Iskandar said the MoU was one of inter-ministerial synergistic effort in overcoming unemployment problem in Indonesia.
The synergy, according to Muhaimin, covered training, education, recruitment process, and the protection of the workers in marine and fishery sector.
Vice President Boediono also supported the synergy of the three ministries, because it was needed to overcome various problems especially unemployment.
"We need a synergy from various parties, especially from our ministries, because it is our common task. Therefore today we have an MoU (MoU) on the establishment of an employment services and information center," the vice president said.
