Bali (ANTARA News/SANA) - Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal Mikdad on Thursday delivered Syria`s statement at the 16th Ministerial Conference and Commemorative Meeting of the 50th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Bali, Indonesia.

Mikdad said that Syria agrees with Bali`s Commemorative Declaration on the 50th anniversary of founding the NAM which stressed intention of the NAM member states to achieve a safer and more secure world, to create a multi-polar world, to reject unilateral sanctions imposed on any NAM countries that would affect negatively on peoples and economic growth.

"The NAM support to the principles of sovereignty, independence, non-interference in the internal affairs of any state, achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East based on UN relevant resolutions, Madrid terms of reference, land-for-peace principle, and the Arab peace initiative confirm the vitality of the movement and readiness to confront the political and economic challenges represented by the global economic and financial crisis and the energy, food and climate changes crisis," Mikdad said.

He called for strengthening the movement`s role in dealing with the attempts by some to impose a trusteeship on the human rights situations in a way that leads to the politicization and interference in the internal affairs of the NAM member states.

Dr. Mikdad spoke about the recent unfair plot targeted Syria, which was followed up, with deep concern, by the NAM members states, due to their keenness on Syria`s stability and its regional and international active role as a NAM founder.

He made it clear that Syria`s internal policy is built on the development, openness and on direct communication between President Bashar al-Assad and citizens, while its foreign policy is built on defending the Arab issues, supporting independence of peoples and liberation movements all over the world and adhering to the national rights.

Dr. Mikdad said that Syria, due to its positions, was exposed to the most serious episode in a series of plots to hit its steadfastness and abort its central role in the region.

He touched upon perpetrations of the extremist and terrorist groups against the state institutions, private and public properties, and army and security forces to destabilize security in Syria and to create chaos.

The Deputy Foreign and Expatriate Minister noted that these groups are linked to anti-Syrian foreign sides and backed by unprecedented misleading media campaign by some Arab and foreign satellite channels to distort facts, fabricate lies and to mislead the public opinion.

Mikdad said "Syria wasn`t surprised by the hypocrisy of a major country and its western allies to show keenness on the Syrian blood while ignoring what Syria has reported about seizing large amounts of smuggled weapons to armed gangs supported by foreign parties.

"These gangs launched terrorist attacks on the innocent civilians and members of the Syrian Arab army and security forces," said Mikdad, adding that those who want reform don`t turn to vandalism.

Mikdad said the USA and the EU procedures against Syria can`t be understood but a direct support to these terrorist and extremist groups to shed more blood. This support is a clear example of the worst double standards.

He added "while those countries talk about supporting human rights, we couldn`t feel the same courage when they talk about Israel`s real (non-fabricated) violations of human rights in the occupied Arab territories and killing more than 1500 citizens in its aggression on Gaza apart from the thousands of innocent civilians killed during the Israeli aggression on Lebanon."

The Deputy Foreign and Expatriate Minister stressed that those groups which made chaos and riots aimed at depleting Syria through marginal battles and slowing the development and reform process which is the guarantee to protect the nation and liberate the occupied Syrian and Arab territories.

Mikdad said President al-Assad has always believed that political solutions are the basis for achieving legitimate rights and that the dialogue among all spectrums of the society will help reach the desired result.

He reviewed President al-Assad`s procedures since the beginning of events such as issuing reform decrees, and meeting representatives from all the Syrian provinces which are part of the national, comprehensive and effective dialogue that will push Syria forward.

The Syrian people and their leadership will achieve progress in the country through dialogue and away from foreign dictates, he added.

Mikdad expressed Syria`s appreciation of the NAM member states` support to liberate the occupied Syrian Golan till the line of June 4th 1967, indicating to Israel`s exercises against the Syrian citizens which violate the simplest human rights in a flagrant challenge to the UN resolutions.

He said that the peace process, launched in 1991, hasn`t achieved any of its goals. It was a process without peace.

The events proved the validity of Syria`s stance towards the absence of an Israeli partner for peace, particularly after the campaign launched by the Israeli Premier from the US Congress when he announced that Jerusalem will remain Israel`s united capital and that the West Bank is an Israeli territory, rejecting to withdraw to the line of June 4th 1967.(*)
