"Thank God, we will sign a letter of intent toward the signing of an MoU with Indonesia," Saudi Arabian Manpower Minister Adel Mohammad Fakeih said after attending an Indonesia-Saudi Arabian Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) here on Saturday.
The SOM between the two countries discussed matters relating to the placement of Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia.
With the agreement, the target of the Indonesian delegation to the SOM that Indonesia and Saudi Arabia should agree an MoU on Indonesian workers was achieved.
The Indonesian delegation to the SOM was led by Moh Jumhur Hidayat, head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Overseas (BNP2TKI).
The SOM was held at Jedda`s Royal Guest House, where Jumhur and other Indonesian delegates are staying.
Fakeih said the two countries needed to sign the MoU as a legal umbrella for the placement and protection of Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia.
He said that the letter of intent contained a number of matters relating to the arrangement, placement and protection of Indonesian workers so that they would be able to work comfortably and securely with protection.
The Saudi minister expressed gratitude to the Indonesian delegation for its cooperation so that the SOM proceeded smoothly and produced a decision which was very important for both nations.
In the meantime, Jumhur said that the readiness of Saudi Arabia to sign an MoU in the near future constituted a victory of both nations.
"This is the victory of the Saudi Arabian Kingdom and the Indonesian government in making improvement in the placement and protection of Indonesian workers," Jumhur said.
He praised the Saudi government, including Manpower Minister Adel Mohammad Fakeih and his delegation which had high commitment to the Indonesian workers affairs.
Jumhur said that the Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia which numbered 1.5 million had brought many advantages to Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
