The epicenter of the quake which struck at around 07.00 a.m. was in the sea about 119 km southwest of Krui area in Lampung or 339 km northwest of Jakarta at a depth of 10 km, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in its official website.
The temblor was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami.
Sunday`s quake was the latest in a series of quakes to affect several parts of Indonesia.
Earlier, a quake with a magnitude of 5.3 jolted the eastern Indonesian town of Ende on Thursday.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.(*)
