The first quake of 6.0 magnitude rattled the northern part of Sulawesi island at 03.17 a.m. western Indonesian time, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of the board`s data and information center, said in a short message text.
The quake was centered 222 km northeast of Melonguane in North Sulawesi. However, there was no immediate report of casualties or material damage, he said.
A few minutes later at 03.28 a.m. western Indonesian time a 5.3- magnitude undersea quake jolted Cilacap, Central Java. The quake was centered 121 km southwest of Cilacap. No fatalities and material damages were reported in the quake, he said.
He said a 6.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Lampung province at 07.00 a.m. on Sunday. The epicenter of the quake was in the sea about 119 km southwest of Krui area, West Lampung, at a depth of 10 km.
There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage caused by the quake in Lampung, he said.
The quake was felt by people living in Liwa, Lampung province, and Kepahiang, Bengkulu province. "The quake caused a panic among local people but the situation has returned to normal," he said.
He said BNPB was still coordinating with regional disaster mitigation offices to monitor situations in the affected areas.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity. (*)
