The survey made by Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) shows the Democrat Party will take the lead by grabbing 18.9 percent of the overall votes if the elections are held this month.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will finish second with 16.7 percent and the Golkar Party will follow in third place with 12.5 percent, LSI Director Syaiful Mujani said.
Trailing behind in the fourth place will be the Nation Awakening Party (PKB) with 4.5 percent, followed by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) with 4.1 percent, the United Development Party (PPP) with 4 percent, the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party with 2.9 percent, the National Mandate Party (PAN) with 2.4 percent, and the People`s Conscience (Hanura) Party with 0.9 percent.
Mujani said the survey was conducted on 1,220 respondents across the country who had met qualifications as voters with the level of trust reaching 95 percent.
"The survey was conducted face-to-face by trained interviewers from May 5 to 15, 2011," he said.
Compared to the April 2009 elections, the Democrat Party`s votes show a downward trend to 18.9 percent from 20.85 percent, PDIP`s votes see an upward trend to 16.7 percent from 14.15 percent and Golkar`s votes have a stable trend to 12.5 percent from 14.85 percent, he said.(*)
