The funds worth Rp21.198 trillion will be used among others to build true broadband access that may help accelerate development of the government-designated six economic corridors, particularly centers of economic growth in each of the corridors.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State telecommunications operator PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) is ready to invest up to Rp21.198 trillion to support the recently-launched Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia`s Economic Development (MP3EI).
"The funds worth Rp21.198 trillion will be used among others to build true broadband access that may help accelerate development of the government-designated six economic corridors, particularly centers of economic growth in each of the corridors," Telkom President Director Rinaldi Firmansyah said in a press statement issued on Friday.
To ensure the success of MP3EI 2011-2025, Indonesia needed broadband telecommunications infrastructure capable of connecting home passes to content providers at a speed of 20 Mbps and 100 Mbps, he said.
These would all strengthen national connectivity system covering connectivity among centers of economic growth at each of the six economic corridors and centers of economic growth among islands, he said.
On May 27, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launched a MP3EI program, a new theme in the development of regional economy which focuses on the efforts to give added value to natural resources and avoid concentration of economic activities in certain areas.
The MP3EI designates six regions as main economic corridors. The corridors refer to six economic development highways which are mostly located along coastlines to connect centers of economic growth on the five major islands of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua.
Sumatra will be designated as a center for agriculture and energy, Java for industries and services, Kalimantan for mining and energy, Sulawesi and North Maluku for agriculture and fisheries. Meanwhile, Bali and East and West Nusa Tenggara will focus on tourism and supporting national food self-sufficiency, Papua and Maluku on natural and human resources.
Rinaldi said Telkom had begun developing the true broadband access scheduled for completion in 2015.
"The true broadband infrastructures will be launched in stages covering at least 497 municipalities and districts. The project which is targeted to achieve 13 million home passes will cost Rp21.198 trillion originating from internal funds," he said.
Hopefully, the true broadband access would also encourage the growth of small and medium businesses through the development of proper information and communication technology by taking advantage of the true broadband infrastructure which reached all over the country, he said. (R017/S012/O001)
