Trailing behind in the second place was Tangerang district with 323 cases, Head of the Public Relations Services at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Snr Comr Baharudin Djafar said on Thursday.
South Jakarta came in third with 182 cases, he said.
The police noted that Central Jakarta also recorded the highest crime rate among the areas in April with 323 cases, followed by Tangerang district with 296 cases and East Jakarta with 253 cases.
Baharudin said theft dominated the crime rate in the areas in April with 642 cases, followed by drug abuses with 417 cases and motorcycle theft with 352 cases.
The other criminal offenSes included murder, gross torture, gambling, extortion, rape, and youth delinquency, he said.
He said the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had routinely been evaluating the causes of street crimes, optimizing the function of the Public Security and Order Development Board (Babinkamtibmas) and stepping up patrols to anticipate a rise in crime rate.
Police have identified some places in Central Jakarta as crime-prone areas including Gajah Mada Street, Hayam Wuruk Street, Coca Cola intersection, Ahmad Yani Street and Senen area.
Crime-prone areas in West Jakarta include Cengkareng, Grogol intersection, Tomang, Slipi, Pesing and Roxy; South Jakarta include Pancoran, Mayestik, Cipete Raya, Cilandak and Pasar Jumat; and East Jakarta cover Pasar Rebo, Arion intersection and Rawamangun.
